If your child has had more than three episodes of watery stools, then that can be considered as the onset of diarrhea. Diarrhea is caused by the spreading of germs through the oral-fecal route. A child’s body is developing and sensitive, which makes them more vulnerable to diarrhea. Germs can come in contact while playing in the park or learning how to walk.
While crawling or playing in the mud, The child is surrounded by germs which make him easily vulnerable. We cannot control our children’s habits, but we can be smart to be prepared for the consequences.
Why Should we be prepared for diarrhea?
Diarrhea is a very uncertain yet a common disease that is why it is advised to be prepared for it. It causes excess passage of watery stools which leads to dehydration (Excess loss of water and electrolytes from the body) and low immunity in the child’s body.
Being prepared for diarrhea includes:
- Being aware of diarrhea and its consequences
- Stocking ORS and Zinc in the first-aid kit.
- Cleaning the house with disinfectant.
- Keeping the doctor’s number handy.
Being aware of diarrhea is the first step in being prepared for diarrhea. Due to a lack of information, parents are not able to make the decision in full confidence. Often a day is lost before the parents consult a doctor. Due to a lack of knowledge, the condition of the child can get worst. If the child has diarrhea, he or she should be given ORS + Zinc Tablets immediately. Unlike other diseases, parents are unaware of the seriousness of diarrhea, and that is why it does not get the importance which can lead to fatal results sometimes.
ORS and Zinc are the best diarrhea medicine. ORS helps to hydrate the body and Zinc strengthens the gut line, which improves the absorption of nutrients by the child’s body. Parents should avoid giving antibiotics as they will make the child’s body resistant to it in the future. In case children vomit after taking ORS or cannot consume zinc tablets, you should consult a doctor.
Cleaning the house with a disinfectant kills germs and reduces the chances of the child’s encounter with diarrhea. Doctors should immediately be consulted after the onset of diarrhea.
If not handled properly, diarrhea can trigger pneumonia and other diseases which can lead to the admission of your child in the hospital.
Do not take your child’s playful moments, Be Smart, Be prepared
